Orthopedic Surgery – Shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle orthopedics
Robert Kadoko, MD is the definition of the non-traditional path to medicine. Born in Uganda, he grew up during a civil war. Despite this, he worked hard and graduated first in his class with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1989. This excellence has continued throughout his career. He moved to New York in 1990, where he attended the City College of New York and graduated with a master of engineering degree specializing in solid mechanics in 1993. He spent the next two years working as a licensed engineer in New York.
He then decided to study medicine and studied for the medical school exam at night. He performed so well and was admitted to Yale University Medical School, without doing any premed classes. He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine in 2000, and went to the University of Iowa Orthopedics Department for postgraduate training in orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Kadoko’s background in advanced mechanical engineering offers him a unique understanding of musculoskeletal problems and modern tools and techniques. He focuses on adult shoulder, hip, knee and ankle problems, and performs arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, arthroplasty, and comprehensive fracture care. Whereas he has trained in some of the best institutions in the country, it is his life experience outside of the medical field that allows him to understand what is most important, the needs of the patient.
